Toy Story 4 | Spoiler Review and Lessons Learned #54

Toy Story 4 was a good *maybe* final installment in the franchise.  Fun new characters and a fresh story line and lovely animation.

SPOILER ALERT!  Watch the movie before proceeding.

Lessons Learned from Toy Story 4

Dusty: Loyalty is important.

  • Woody demonstrated this with his attitude of “leave no toy behind”.  This is how we all should be in regards to family, friends, work and anything else important in our lives.

Bo Peep leading the way

Sky: Where there’s a will there’s a way.

  • Forky wouldn’t be dissuaded from getting into the trash and found multiple ways to end up there.  Woody as well wouldn’t be dissuaded from saving Forky and keeping him around as one of Bonnie’s toys.  If it’s important to you, you’ll find a way to accomplish it.

No more perfect fit for the motorcycle stuntman Duke Caboom than Keanu Reeves

Dusty: Stealing a Kidney from someone is wrong.

  • Besides murder, you can’t get much more evil than this.

Sky & Dusty:  Listen to your inner voice… that’s just your gut or your conscience telling you to do the right thing.

  • Of course Woody always follows his conscience because he is a very good toy. Buzz Lightyear didn’t understand the idea, but eventually he got it and followed his own. And even when his own inner voice wasn’t saying what he thought it should, he kept questioning it and pushing the button over and over again. So he was actually listening to his inner voice because he knew that that other voice was wrong.

Bunny and Ducky were fun additions to the toy menagerie

Sky: You can get what you want by buttering them up.

  • Bo Peep convinced Duke Caboom to do what she wanted by saying all those nice things, so he relented and helped them save Forky.  You know what they say, “Flattery will get you… everything.”

The Critics (98%) and Audiences (95%) on Rotten Tomatoes agree on this one.  Highly recommended to see.

Sky has chosen Spider-man: Far From Home as the next movie we’ll learn from.

If you missed it, last week we learned from Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 (2017).

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 (2017) | Spoiler Review #53

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 was a perfect follow-up!  Just as good as the first with humor, action and beautiful space landscapes.  Space opera indeed!

SPOILER ALERT!  Watch the movie before proceeding.

Lessons Learned from Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2

Dusty: Sometimes the thing you’ve been searching for your entire life has been there all along.

  • Appreciate the things you have and the grass isn’t always greener.  Quill never realized his daddy, Yondu, was with him all along.

Lovin’ the dancin’ Groot intro

Sky: Say the things you want to say to somebody before it’s too late.

  • If Yondu would’ve told Quill how he felt about him sooner, then their lives could’ve been much different and potentially better.

We love the beautiful space landscapes

Dusty: Family does not leave.

  • Family is always there for each other, regardless of arguments and little squabbles.

Sky: Don’t lock up your enemies together.

  • You’re just giving them the chance to work together and defeat you.  Yondu caged with Rocket?!  Bad thinking, Ravagers.

Yondu’s arrow in action

Dusty: Always, always be extraordinarily humble.

  • We love Drax!

Mantis, look out!

Sky: Keep your mouth shut when they’re on your side. The tide can always turn against you.

  • It’s the downfall of too many people, their “ego” causes them to spout off and turn your friends against you.

We think the Rotten Tomatoes score should be higher than these, but the critics at 84% and the audience at 87% is nothing to shake a stick at.

Dusty has chosen Toy Story 4 as the next movie we’ll learn from.

If you missed it, last week we learned from Dark Phoenix.

Dark Phoenix | Spoiler Review & Lessons Learned #52

Dark Phoenix is not the ending we wanted, but it is the ending we needed.  MCU, here we come!  So much to dislike about this very *meh* super hero movie.

SPOILER ALERT!  Watch the movie before proceeding.

Lessons Learned from Dark Phoenix

Sky: If something isn’t working for you, cut it out of your life.

  • Like Magneto did with cutting vengeance and violence out of his life. This is applicable to us normal humies with maybe cutting alcohol or bad influences in our lives.

Loved Nightcrawler!

S

Missed opportunity… little Quicksilver action = royal screw-up

Another stone-faced movie performance… we’re sure she wanted her character to die

Yeah, the Rotten Tomatoes Critics score makes sense at 23%, but Audience’s at 64%!  Maybe the audience for X-men movies ARE stupid… ?

We chose Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 (instead of The Dead Don’t Die) as the next movie we’ll learn from.

If you missed it, last week we learned from Godzilla: King of the Monsters

Godzilla: King of the Monsters | Spoiler Review and Lessons Learned #51

Godzilla: King of the Monsters was such a boring and disappointing movie.  We both felt the same, but the major takeaway was that Mothra made of Redbull. It gave Godzilla wings!

SPOILER ALERT!  Watch the movie before proceeding.

Lessons Learned from Godzilla: King of the Monsters

Sky: It sucks to be expendable.

  • Soldiers are always first to die, they’ll leave you behind if necessary.  Do what you’ve got to do to be incredibly important to your group/workplace.

Dusty: You always have a choice.

  • You may have to suffer the consequences or admit you were wrong, but you’ve always got a choice.

Stay miles away from this guy!

Sky: Don’t telegraph your punches.

  • Godzilla’s spines light up when he’s about to shoot his electric snout burst.

Dusty: People are more important than anything.

  • There are better options than “Thanos-ing” the earth with titans to save it.

Whoa, 3-headed aliens?!  I’ll stay on Earth, thanks anyways, Elon.

Dusty: Never join the navy because they may make you be in a submarine.

  • If you’re going into the armed services, choose the one that most suits your personality.  Love being in close, sweaty quarters with tons of dudes?  Navy’s the one for you.

Cool seeing prior civilizations that worshiped these titans

It’s not often that we agree with Critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but this time, we sure did!  Critics at 40% and Audience at 86%.
