The Running Man – man-hunting action and great one-liners from the ’80’s

Video coming soon!

The Running Man is still a lot of fun. Campy at times, but good stalker killing action, Schwarzenegger and Maria Conchita Alonso and a dystopian future make for a great watch. Plus, without this movie we would’ve never gotten, “Here is Sub Zero. Now… PLAIN Zero”. Schwarzenegger one-liners for the win!

SPOILER ALERT!  Watch the movie before proceeding.

Life Lessons Learned from The Running Man

Dusty: Use a stick and poke him in the eye.

  • Never get close to a bad guy laying on the ground. And Dusty does this same thing (like Homer Simpson) and pokes his shot deer in the eye.

The perfect prop to take away from The Running Man… Arnie’s Hawaiian duds!

Sky: Nobody likes a liar.

  • Everyone seemed to like Killian as the show host. He was up there telling everyone he loves them, smooching gilf’s and pretending to be a good guy giving convicts a fair chance. But, as soon as he was exposed as a fraud, everyone turned on him and enjoyed his death.

Iconic stalkers Fireball, Buzzsaw, Dynamo and Sky’s favorite, Subzero.

Sky: Being exasperating may help you get beyond authority.

  • The Hawaii-bound ticketing agent let Richards and Amber through because he was holding up the line. Sky got out of a speeding ticket once because the cop was frustrated that he couldn’t produce his registration which was trapped in an unforgiving glove box.

Dusty: Don’t be a hypocrite and a jerk like Killian.

  • Another example: the cancelled tyrant named DeGeneres.

I blame his jerk-ass parents. What do you expect your kid to turn into when you name him Damon Killian?!

Commando Movie Review – The Ultimate ’80’s Action Movie (1985)

Commando is Schwarzenegger at his action ’80’s best! He’s a killing machine as works his way through mercenaries and an entire army in an effort to save his daughter. He also prevents an evil military coup in the process. We love it!

SPOILER ALERT!  Watch the movie before proceeding.

Life Lessons Learned from Commando

Dusty: Have guns everywhere.

  • You gotta protect yourself, especially if you’ve developed loads of enemies like being the hero of a revolution.

The early father-daughter montage really showed Matrix’s love for Jenny (Alyssa Milano).

Sky: Let sleeping dogs lie.

  • Matrix is the best of the best, so why the heck are you getting him involved?! He would’ve never defeated the army and prevented the military coup if they didn’t kidnap his daughter. Dumbass ’80’s villain.

Rae Dawn Chong as Cindy was great in this movie. Shooting rockets, flying plains and comedic moments?! Give me more RDC!

Dusty:  Never quit.

  • Matrix would stop at nothing to save his daughter Jenny. And even Jenny decided to try and escape when she stopped feeling sorry for herself.

A dad-bod doesn’t make for a worthy Schwarzenegger adversary.

All-time Classic ’80’s comedy: Three Amigos! (1986) We love it!

Three Amigos! is a childhood favorite, now our children love it as well. It’s an LOL riot as Lucky Day, Ned Nederlander and Dusty Bottoms attempt to save the town of Santo Poco from El Guapo and his gang of Mexican cowboys. There’s no better display of the comedic genius of Martin, Short and Chase.

SPOILER ALERT!  Watch the movie before proceeding.

Dusty: Don’t get a big head about yourself.

  • You might think you’re hot stuff, but if someone has control of your career, don’t try to put pressure on your boss when you don’t actually have the clout you need. Lucky Day screwed up by negotiating from a position of no-power.

Sunset on the mesa.

Sky: Follow directions.

  • Directions are there to help you avoid mistakes (furniture, Legos and recipes), so improve your chance of success by following them. Fire your gun in the air, Dusty Bottoms!

El Guapo and Jefe are wonderful baddies.

Sky: Don’t stand too close to a gun fight.

  • For one, you might get shot. For another, where do you look? You don’t want to miss the action, so get a wider view and step back.

Love their signature move.

We Love RocketMan (1997) and Here’s Why

RocketMan was a laugh-out-loud riot of a movie!  Neither of us remembered how good it was and Dusty actually gave it an A+!  What a grade!  Harland Williams is in top from as Fred Randall, and his supporting cast does a great job allowing him free reign.

Lessons Learned from RocketMan

Sky: Don’t kick off your shoes in the house.

  • You’re gonna break something, and potentially tick-off your wife something fierce.

Dusty: Being and acting weird makes others uncomfortable.

  • Try to pay attention to social cues and know when they aren’t picking-up what you’re putting down.
William Sadler plays a great straight-man alongside Harland’s crazy Fred

Sky: If you’re running out of time, skip the sleep.

  • If it’s important to get done, sleep can wait until you’re dead.

Dusty: Don’t judge a book by it’s cover.

  • Just ’cause Fred’s a bit weird, doesn’t mean he’s an idiot.  This guy’s the smartest in the room, but you’d never know it if you didn’t give him a chance.

Harland Williams – 2006 interview with Conan O’Brien

Sky: Learn your lesson the first time.

  • Put the chimp to sleep first!
Sky’s favorite scene

Dusty: Don’t assume you are the smartest person in the room.

  • Yeah, go ahead and assume they’re smarter than you until they prove their idiocy.

Bonus Lesson from Dusty: Always blame Julie.
