Tango & Cash is a straight-up FUN 80’s action buddy cop flick. Interesting and moving story, great action, lots of humor and the lusciously flowing hair of Kurt Russel. We love it!

Dusty: Get an amazing haircut like Cash (Kurt Russell).

  • If you got it, show it off! We would if we could.

Sky: Cut your hair when you’re on the run from the law.

  • Showing up with hair like that and everyone will notice you, Cash.

Look at those flowing locks!

Dusty: Get away from danger fast.

  • Tango wanting to stay in prison to avoid Matt’s potential trap makes no sense. Get to gettin’ while the gettin’s good!

Sky: Wear your seat belts. 

  • Face and his buddy had plenty of time to buckle up (even criminals need safety) before Tango “forced” them to stop the truck and fly through the windshield.

Stuber | Spoiler Review and Lessons Learned #57

Stuber was an enjoyable buddy-cop movie that didn’t bring anything new to the genre, but there’s a fun chemistry between Bautista and Nanjiani that makes it worth watching.

SPOILER ALERT!  Watch the movie before proceeding.

Lessons Learned from Stuber

Sky: Don’t drive blind

  • Impaired in any way?  Driving just puts yourself and others at risk… unnecessarily (especially with guys like Stuber around).

Dusty: Have many guns

  • You can never have too many to protect yourself with (Chris Tucker’s character carried an extra one in his ankle holster).

Iko Uwais is always great to see in a movie.

Sky: Skip the therapist, and head to your local strip club for advice and perspective on life

  • Those strippers have done a ton of living, so let them share their wisdom with you.

Dusty: Shots fired… call backup ASAP

  • Yep great advice for cops and for regular peeps like us.  You need help, just ask.

Stu shot someone!  What a crazy day he had.

Sky: Use the threat of social media instead of violence to coerce cooperation

  • People are too wrapped up in their social media profiles nowadays.  If you’re one of these people, you’re giving others ammunition to use against you.

We loved that they went to the Sriracha factory

Dusty: Real men shake hands

  • Stu’s got that one right.

Sky’s Anti-Lesson Learned: “Real men cry, real men listen to their feelings.”  No.  What makes you a man is doing what needs to be done regardless of your feelings. I can’t disagree with Stu more. Sure, it’s okay to cry it’s okay to have feelings. But keep your crying to yourself and keep your feelings to yourself. Nobody cares about your feelings, the only care about what they want.

You’re botching it again, Critics with a measly 45% on Rotten Tomatoes with the Audience coming in with a much more acceptable (and deservable) 80%.

Rush Hour was still a fun movie 21 years later, but it feels very ’90’s and doesn’t hold up as well as we’d like.  Still a fun buddy cop action-comedy worth seeing, though.

Lessons Learned from Rush Hour

Dusty: If you’re backup, be there when called!

  • 5 minutes late and the bad guys get away.

Sky: Don’t do your business out in the open. 

  • Keep your secrets secret!  Carter doing his undercover work out in the open is idiotic. You’re undercover, act like it!

Love seeing Chan and Tucker on screen together

Dusty: Finger to the throat means death.

  • Drax learned this lesson in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Pulling a gun on your fellow officer doesn’t seem like a smart/considerate move

Sky:  Don’t assume foreigners can’t speak your language

  • Another movie cliche, but seriously, don’t assume they don’t speak your language.  You’ll give away all your secrets.

Are we really getting a part 4?  We’ll be there on opening day!

It’s not surprising to see the Audience’s score (78%) is way above the Critics (60% – squeaking into the “fresh” rating) for Rush Hour on Rotten Tomatoes.
